Overview
The N. M. Wadia Institute of Cardiology is a 57 bed state of art Cardiac Super Specialty Hospital providing cardiac care since 1966. The quality of care has been accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH). We take pride in being the pioneers in providing super speciality cardiac care in Pune and have many firsts in cardiac care to our credit. N. M. Wadia institute of Cardiology is equipped with two dedicated Cardiac Operation Theatres along with the latest Digital Cardiac Catheterization lab and other state of the art diagnostic equipment
with a team of highly efficient and dedicated professionals ensure that the Institute is prepare to meet with any cardiac emergency.
HISTORY
The inception of a Single Cardiac Care Hospital in Maharashtra in 1964 and more so in Pune, was an idea of our founder Dr. S.M.S. Mody. Dr. Mody felt that there was a need for a dedicated Cardiac Unit that could offer Coronary Care to the patients along with an opportunity and environment for doctors to practice and train in Cardiology. In 1967 Dr Kanetkar joined the Institute as head of Surgery. In 1973 Dr. Magdi Yacoub performed 5 consecutive heart surgeries taking forward the surgical programme.

Our Founder
DR. S.M.S. MODY
1930-2015
The brain behind the formation of the hospital, back in the 60’s, Dr SMS Mody really believed that it was possible to have a superior heart care centre, at par with international standards in India. As a student pursuing medicine at the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, Dr. Mody went on to become a Fellow of the Royal Physicians, Edinburgh. He came back to India with a zeal and commitment to serve his fellow Indians and provide them with effective and modern cardiac care services.
In the late 50’s and early 60’s, the field of Cardiology wasn’t quite as well explored as it is today. As a matter of fact, there were no exclusive heart care centres to be found in Pune. Dr. Soli Maneck Sorabji Mody, fondly known as Dr. Sammy Mody, is regarded as the pioneer of Heart Care in Pune. His single room OPD with a humble set up is now transformed into a state-of-the-art heart care facility in the city.
